Way too slow

Meant to be a quick run after work But it was anything but!! Ran another 1.3 miles over this bit Strava didn’t count it :Shielding finishes today in England. Interesting that everyone tells me to look for the positives in that experience. I honestly can’t find any. The impact of the huge life changes around lockdown and just before it and the impact of shielding I don’t think I will fully understand or feel for a while. But I do know it has changed me hugely as a person. I just hope that others can understand and appreciate the reasons for those changes even if they don’t understand why.

First session back for Levitation. Everyone kept to social distancing (in fact over at most points), plans worked, cleaning worked. Now time to look at the SOP and RA to see what lessons learned and make any changes

It was lovely to see everyone back and healthy even though it was very different. Massive thanks to Ministry of Air for hosting us. Just hope everyone enjoyed it. (I decided to go and coached with my visor and mask!).

Now the most terrifying part - navigation public transport through London to get home.

Long slow 16 miles

Nearly didn’t go today as was so tired this morning after coaching and travelling yesterday but decided to go and run something. So pleased to have made my 16 miles goal even if it was slow. So the only holiday that we thought would survive this year (Malta) got cancelled

It’s going to be a very long year as we last had a break in June 2019

So after much debate and worry I made the decision to return to coaching trampolining yesterday as shielding ended in England. My HCSW and Return to Clinical update training proved vital for cleaning and wearing of relevant PPE (!), the session went well although I really did not enjoy the public transport in and out. It was lovely to see club members enjoying training - and the moaning about how much people ache today has been hilarious! As we only got as far as straight jumping and tucks/pike/straddle jumps it is very funny. Im not sure when or even if I can get on a trampoline again, but I hope it can be sorted so I can finish my career in that sport the right way.

Anyway, this morning I was somewhat tired. Tbh tired was an understatement, I actually couldn’t get out of bed at 7am when Ocado knocked (note to self - don’t book stupid morning times for food delivery!) and perfected the roll down the stairs to open the door whilst wearing a Yoda dressing gown and trying to get my eyes to open even a fraction.

Anyway, having eventually forced eyes to open, I cleaned house and made myself go for a “short run” having convinced myself I couldn’t do the long run planned.

Anyone who knows me well, knows that that is how I convince myself to do stuff I don’t think I can do - I say I’m not going to do it with the full intent that I will. But it gives me an out if I really can’t as Im really not good at handling failure (which is mad as failing is something I am incredibly good at). So my intention was 15 miles. I can say this now. At 12 this afternoon I was saying it was 3.1 miles!

16 miles later, I stupidly realised I hadn’t run a circular route and had to walk 9 miles home as I missed the last bus, but am so proud of myself for having I completed my goal run after what has been a hard week. I ache somewhat now but that should be sorted by a gentle run tomorrow!

Anyway, please please can people sponsor me. The project I am running for really will have use for all settings including sports, but will have a very practical use for gymnastics and trampolining. The specific project I am raising money for is the development of the Epilepsy Risk Awareness Scale, an App which allows the person with epilepsy to track their progress, risks in their home, work and leisure and how to be safer but still have the best possible quality of life. This is vital to restore self esteem, quality of life and lessen the impact of epilepsy for patients and allow them to risk assess their ability to participate in gymnastics and trampoline as well as other sports and other elements of life generally. Once developed and tested the App will be used across the NHS and healthcare settings so everyone with epilepsy can benefit from it. The cost to develop this app will be £10000 and I am desperate to raise this as quickly as possible so work can start, and people can benefit as quickly as possible.

Even if the marathon doesn’t go ahead in October, which looks likely after Boris’ announcements on Fridays, I will run the 26.2 miles in London on my own and my marathon place will roll to 2021. To continue to raise money for this cause I have also signed up to the Serpentine Swim and will do the London to Brighton Cycle race in 2021. I want to raise as much money as I can by doing these events and would appreciate anyone who can donate to the project.

My next plan is a Blog - from unfit and everyone telling me I can’t run in January, to slightly fitter, still falling on my face regularly but aiming to complete a marathon! I’ve never done a Blog but it might annoy people less than my constant Facebook updates!!

Lunch Run

The more I run the slower I get but the most amazing views as ran uphill to start with (hill training is apparently a thing).

Evening Run

So the marathon won’t be going ahead this year. But I will run 26.2 miles on the 4th October anyway and will run it properly in 2021. So please keep donating - it just gives me more time to raise the total I am aiming for.

So no running today due to an unscheduled trip to Barnet ED but we did find out about the Marathon. Disappointed but inevitable I think. Waiting hear from the charity but my hope would be to run it virtually in October and do the real thing in the October 2021. Fingers crossed. Anyway I’ll keep training instead and it’s a chance to raise more money :) . Hospital WiFi - worse than useless so not many posts for a bit now. If we want to digitise healthcare perhaps we could start by providing a WiFi cloud service that works, maintains signal and has some element of bandwidth or perhaps that might be next years running fundrasiing project!!.
