Blog Post Five
Virtual Challenge
At this point I didnt like to post much about my attempts at running, but last night I managed something I wouldnt have believed I could do, so Im going to, so apologies in advance! So last month I signed up to the LLHM 26 challenge for Macmillan. Any exercise, just has to be based around the numbers 26.
Today was the day. Last night, pretty much as I have every night, I set off to walk/run/crawl the challenge, up and down my road (the shielding version of exercise!). My initial aim was 26 minutes, and I thought if that went OK I would go from there. I am so unfit having only run the 0.1 miles up and down my road for 5 weeks that I wasnt sure how far I would get. After countless trips and falls, an injured knee and hip, swearing at myself constantly, fighting the idea of just giving in, and some very strange looks from the local cat population, I finally achieved what in the back of my mind I had a vague hope I could, even though I would never have admitted it (Im so good at giving up I tend to stay away from vocalising my goals). The time is appalling, but I think Im just happy to have done it, so for now its irrelevant. No photos of any scenery - with 50 houses in our street, most of them empty at the moment, its not the most scenic!
Massive thanks to Jhon-Soul Westwood and @nickdavies for helping to sort the GPS on my phone so it got a distance and time (the trace is still not great and I think the average speed is wrong but Im happy just to have a time and distance and that it didnt think I was running in another country today!!). For all those who should have been running the London Marathon today, Im so sorry you couldnt, but I have the utmost respect for you. Running in your own road, with no one there, where it is safe, is so hard, to run it with so many people around, on a course you dont know must be an even greater challenge. I hope you all get the chance to do it in October. I hope you all have a fantastic Sunday. Enjoy the sun if it is with you. x x x PS - If anyone would like to donate to Macmillan I have added the button. I would really appreicate it xx #llhm2020 #twopointsixchallenge #solorunning
